Everyday, 2025-2024
Everyday is a project created in 2025–2024 during russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
It emerged from observing how ordinary actions can require an immense inner effort in times of war. Taking a shower, stepping outside to breathe fresh air, driving through the rain, going to the theatre, allowing oneself moments of joy or rest — these everyday rituals become unexpectedly difficult when daily life is accompanied by loss, anxiety, and the experience of survivor’s guilt.
At the centre of the project is the image of an internal traffic light. It regulates our emotional responses: stopping us through shame and guilt, or allowing us to move forward. The green light becomes more than a signal of safety; it transforms into an affirmation of one’s right to live, to experience pleasure, to care for oneself, and to remain present in one’s own life.
In this project, the phrase “You may cross” becomes a message addressed to oneself. It marks the moment when a person dares to grant themselves permission to continue living without shame, without apathy, without guilt, and without a prohibition against joy.
Everyday explores the fragile boundary between survival and living. It suggests that self-care, small pleasures, and repetitive rituals are not signs of indifference. On the contrary, they sustain our mental resilience and help preserve the ability to move forward, even in times of war.
“You may cross” is sometimes a phrase we need to say to ourselves.
